Leave the Jungle for Good

Lion in jungle

Strategic planning in business has a direct influence on the outcome of each day, week, month, and year of your life. Putting the right processes in place creates a rhythm and balance in how you use your time and why.

Strategic planning

As an example, let’s think about typical holiday stress. You know it’s coming, it’s on the calendar. You consciously invited 20 people to your house. Let’s look at two different outcomes.

You make a menu, plan the best time to shop, cook, prep, and clean. You have scheduled time to make a homemade dessert, set the table, light candles, and add any special touches that make a holiday at your home a warm and relaxing experience. All of these things make you feel confident, and you’re ready to take part in the joy of celebration. Your guests will eat well, have fun, and hope they will be invited again.

Or…

You wait until the last minute to plan and shop. The store is out of some of your key ingredients, so you have to wing it. You hope everyone took their allergy pill because you won’t be vacuuming up the dog’s hair. When they do arrive, you are in a tizzy and have your family in one, too. Some of the food is cold, you definitely burned something, and the tension is as thick as the store-bought cake you got at the last minute for dessert. When your guests leave, you are exhausted and deflated and have one heck of a headache. They think about making different plans next year.

Save time

An important point here, is that you could have saved a serious chunk of time by planning, by getting your family involved with necessary tasks, and working at a productive pace, not a pressured pace. This elevates everyone’s experience, reconfirms why you are the desired host, and strengthens family bonds by creating positive memories.

Be prepared

Be Prepared is the Boy Scout/ Girl Scout Mantra. It’s also a song on the Lion King soundtrack, which leads to business sometimes being a jungle out there. Every small step has an effect on your destination, so knowing each step before you launch into it allows for readiness and successful implementation and together, they make a journey. It can turn that jungle into a peaceful lakefront view.

There’s lots of proof and stats that support why we do business process work. It can:

•   Reserve resources

•   Increase value for your clients

•   Result in higher revenue for you

•   Lead to more fulfilling work for those you delegate to

•   Eliminate unnecessary busy work

Being purposeful like this requires thought about how things will go, at least on your end. This provides a sense of control and calm, as well as the ability to strategize what comes next, both long and short term.
