I Have a Confession to Make……..

I have a confession to make - I love learning. I actually went back to school because I loved learning so much. Why? Because constant learning expands my mind, my thought process, and my understanding of current trends. All of that elevates how I serve my clients.

That’s why each weekday I get up early, and with one eye open I pull on my workout clothes. I head downstairs not only to exercise my body, but to exercise my brain with some learning. So I hit the exercise button on my Fitbit, start a video, and turn up whatever I’m currently listening to.

Right now it’s High Performance Habits by Brendon Burchard. I’m a sucker for a good bookclub, and this one is through the Balanced Networking for Entrepreneurs Facebook Group.

I want to read all the best business and personal development books, and the accountability for finishing them is the real benefit I get from this group. Not only do we learn from the book, we learn from each other.

Keeping Pace Through Learning

The entrepreneurial world moves so fast, which I also love. I can meet with a client, talk them through a decision, then start implementing it by the end of the call. That’s so refreshing compared to the corporate world where you can wait weeks for a scheduled meeting simply to discuss an idea. Then it has to crawl through the approval of a committee and then the executive board.

But the caveat to the pace of entrepreneurship is the need to keep up with the ever-changing environment.

  • Social media strategies

  • Marketing trends

  • New technologies

  • Algorithms

While you try to keep up, you also have to run your business. Networking, bookkeeping, marketing, actual client work - all need to be maintained.

So in the fast paced world of entrepreneurship, how do you make time for learning so that you can continue to serve your clients at a higher level?

Learning should be intentional, it should be scheduled, and

Brendon Burchard tells us that high performers spend more time learning. Now that’s a club I want to be in!

Finding the time for learning can be tricky. Here are some ways that I fit it into my schedule:

Listening

You can listen to podcasts, audiobooks, and trainings while you’re at the gym, going for a walk, in the car, or cooking dinner.

Accountability

This can come from a bookclub, a networking group, or even one other person trying to accomplish the same thing.

Strategy

When you choose to learn things that are interesting and meaningful to you, staying focused is much easier.

Where I Go to Learn

Since I love learning, I have plenty of recommendations that I share. This is why I am passionate about connecting with and serving other entrepreneurs. I get to use my knowledge and I get to share my resources. I like to provide as much information as possible to help my clients succeed in their businesses.

Here’s a list of just a few:

Books - High Performance Habits by Brendon Burchard and the 12 Week Year by Brian Moran and Michael Lennington

Podcasts - “Unmute Yourself - The Podcast” with Beth Knaus and Nancy Medoff and The Mel Robbins Podcast

Social media - On LinkedIn I follow Kristi Mitchell for marketing, Justin Kerr for branding and design, and Cathryn Dall for all things networking
