Daily Actions: The Greatest Predictor of Your Future Success

The best way to predict your future is to create it.” - Abraham Lincoln

Business and personal growth is determined by what you choose to do with your time. Yet I often hear clients say, “I’m working so hard but not getting where I want to go.”

The usual culprit is how they structure their day and the actions that are or aren’t on their daily task list.

Go big with dreams but small with actions

I highly encourage going big with your dreams, but I strongly caution you against going big with your actions. With actions, the smaller you play the better. But for big thinking entrepreneurial go-getters, small actions can seem boring and mundane. They try our patience, making us question if they are even worth doing.

Often, we go through the motion of small actions or habits and don’t recognize the cumulative benefits or consequences, the compounding results of what we choose to do with our time.

For example, if you get up each day and do 50 jumping Jacks and 20 push-ups, you won’t feel the difference in your body at that moment, but over the course of weeks you will see the change in yourself physically.

And it works both ways. If each day you start to eat an extra cookie after lunch and a glass of wine each night, in a few weeks you will see the consequence of your actions when the zipper on your pants suddenly doesn’t want to close.

Be aware of your day to day strategy

This is why we need to be aware of our day to day, even minute to minute, action strategy. You want to have clear goals that are broken down into small actions necessary to achieve them. They should be so small that when you talk about your business strategy you can talk about the nitty gritty priorities, such as focusing every single day on networking and selling.

One of the things I always guide my clients to prioritize is working in their own business vs. working on client work.

Put your business first

No matter what you have to accomplish on your list, no matter how tired you are at the end of the day - if you have client work due, you will get it done before anything else.

But when it's YOUR business stuff that needs attention, you’re ready with award winning excuses for putting it after everything else on the list.

If you want to build, maintain and grow your business, it’s time to put your own business on your VIP client list.

A constant challenge for business owners is the ebb and flow of business and therefore, revenue. You hustle to get a bunch of clients, then you’re overwhelmed by the workload, so you pause from promoting your business. But when the work comes to an end, you scurry back to hustle up new clients.

The way to keep words like “hustle” and “scurry” out of your vocabulary is to spend time on the imperative actions every day that will grow your business.

Those who learn to put their personal business actions first everyday - following up on leads, sending out proposals, reaching out to new contacts - those are the people who will be the most successful.
