Crystal Cherry Colson: Focus on the Journey

Crystal Cherry Colson is a Facebook Ads strategist. We first met in a networking meeting, scheduled a call to connect, and she decided to join my Path of Action Accountability Group.

She knew it was time to step up with her consistency and routine

Crystal was already aware of her need for accountability and was hoping for better productivity with her time. She needed and wanted to get things done in a more structured way, and knew it was time to step up with her consistency and routine.

On our initial call, Crystal realized that there were a lot of things she hadn’t considered when trying to accomplish tasks. She had big goals in her head and really enjoyed working together to break down her goals into doable steps.

Crystal’s business needed visibility through more social media and networking, but she wasn’t prioritizing those things in her schedule. I suggested she implement time blocking to get these things done regularly.

I am a huge advocate for time blocking and really encourage my clients to embrace the concept, and for Crystal, it was a game changer, making her more efficient with her time.

She was ambivalent at first about working in a group setting for accountability. Would she feel pressured? Or get called out for not doing what she committed to? Were there consequences for “not doing the things”?

The group interactions were a much-needed layer of accountability for her

Crystal was pleasantly surprised by how supportive the group was. It was helpful for her to talk things out with the group and get feedback, suggestions, and recommendations for resources. The group interactions were a much-needed layer of accountability for her.

A valuable lesson for Crystal was seeing the places she struggled as a sign of what she really needed to focus on to get done. And she learned by taking action - getting things done by hands-on implementation, and choosing tasks with intention. “I know it’s about the journey, not just the destination,” she said.

An immediate improvement for her came from planning her week the Friday before. Previous to the group, she loosely planned larger, less realistic tasks and goals.

This is another principle I strongly believe in. If you go into your week not knowing what the heck you’re doing, then you can’t truly get anything done!

Increasing her amount of networking also increased her face-to-face visibility and grew her list of connections and referrals. She scheduled time each week to get her social media presence out there, and developed a lead-generating quiz to grow her email list.

Crystal feels more confident

In the long term, Crystal feels more confident about getting honest with herself about how much she can actually get done with her time. Now she no longer tries to do more than she can realistically accomplish.

Going forward she will continue to use the 12-week goal planning system. Twelve weeks is a realistic and manageable amount of time for her to achieve 2 to 3 reasonable goals if they are broken down into doable tasks, and scheduled within a realistic time frame.

“This group has been a game changer for my business. The group not only helped me get things done that I would've either not done or spent too much time overthinking, but committing to my goals and having the accountability pushed me out of my comfort zone. With each action, it forced me to think about if what I was doing was truly in line with my business. I set up systems I didn't have before and began networking in new ways. Plus, I built relationships with some amazing women which was an added bonus.” - Crystal
