All Businesses Start With An Idea

Entrepreneurs start their businesses with an idea. They find great success building off of that idea to serve their clients. But that does not mean they have to stick to that original framework.

One of the great benefits of owning your own business is that when your clients grow and evolve, it’s only natural that you do, too. So your business may be working and highly successful, but you see opportunities to enhance what you’re doing.

Looking back on the past two years I took inventory of my accountability groups and was humbled by the amount of success the participants had in their businesses. It’s been rewarding to watch them grow and to acknowledge my own growth personally and professionally.

The first level of support is a 90-minute strategy session with me. This is a crucial part of my process in both groups and 1:1 client work. We not only work through the best goals to focus on next in their business, but what might get in the way and how to handle those obstacles in the plan we develop together.

Being in one of my accountability groups assured that each member committed to working on up to 3 goals, scheduled the actions necessary to achieve them, and showed up 60-minutes a week for 12 weeks with other business owners to work out their challenges and next moves. They were taking time to work on their own businesses and that wasn’t getting done consistently before.

What is accountability, exactly?

Many business owners interpret accountability as:

“Did you do this or that?”

If the answer is yes, we say, “Bravo, what’s next?”

If the answer is no, we say, “What’s in the way of you getting it done?”

But after running seven full groups I now want to take it a step further with my clients for even greater success. Accountability groups were a great place for me to start. People were drawn to the word accountability because it really means support. But that support is really around executing the necessary actions. In my groups moving forward, I will be putting more focus on the execution piece of the planning.

What does execution really mean?

Execution is the structural framework of how you accomplish these tasks you are accountable for. The strategy for execution is a little more detailed. It goes a bit deeper. But when it’s done well, it can boost your business to that next level you’re aiming for.

Creating this type of execution is not about finding the best processes and systems. It’s about finding the best ones for each client. What works for one business owner may not make sense to another.

Fine tuning these specific preferences and tweaking them as we move forward will allow for more streamlined, time and energy efficient business models. Your actions will be accomplished faster and your goals reached sooner with proper execution strategy.

I’ve helped dozens of small business owners move forward in their businesses. Now I can see that by focusing a bit more on execution - how they achieve their goals and what they do to achieve them, can benefit their strategy.

I'm going to take the summer to enhance my group offering to expand on accountability, planning, and most of all, execution strategy. I’m proud of how my groups have evolved, and I’m excited to share the newest version with you. So keep your eye out this fall for the new Path of Action Strategy & Execution Group.
