What Got You Here Won’t Get You There: Client Evolution Stories
Starting your business required something different than growing your business. What got you here won’t get you there. Evolution spurs growth - your evolution, how you operate, how you see yourself, and show up to run your business. You have to be willing to adapt every time your business is ready for a growth spurt. The businesses willing to adapt are the ones that grow.
Here are some client success stories that show what can happen when you do.
Simplify Processes to Save Time
One client came to me losing a ton of time customizing their onboarding for every individual project. They created proposals, contracts, invoices, and deliverables from scratch, even though her services were very “standard.” I explained that it was easy to create general packages with consistent pricing, deliverables, and onboarding documents. Then I helped her set up the systems necessary. Once she switched to a more streamlined process, she not only saved a considerable amount of time in administrative activities but also gained so much mental space that she was previously losing due to the stress of unnecessary project steps. The momentum and organization in the back end of her business resulted in incredible growth and a boost in confidence.
Show Your Business Who’s Boss
I had a client who struggled to see herself as the CEO of her business, the one with the power to make all the decisions. Seeing herself as a freelancer gave her more of an employee mindset. She had no boundaries, expectations, or standards for handling her client relationships. We did a deep dive into things like how many hours did she want to work? Did she want days or times blocked to exclusively work on her business development? How did she want her business to run instead of the business running her? We worked together to put those things in place, and it elevated how she saw herself as a business owner. She started to show up for her current and future clients as the leader and CEO she had been all along. The caliber of her business improved, as did the clients she started to attract.
My third story is about a client who had been in business for years but still struggled to take control of what seemed like small details, things like her schedule, details around her offers, and pricing. She was constantly accommodating everyone else, waiting for some sort of external permission to make decisions in her own business. The problem was that the permission had to come from her. Once we helped her step fully into her role as CEO, she stopped hesitating and started making those decisions. She set a schedule that worked for her, raised her prices and refined her offers. She took ownership of the business she had built, and it grew beyond her expectations.
Delegate to Elevate
The final story is about a client who had a very successful business, but her productivity was limited by the hours in her schedule. It was time to hire someone and start delegating. We mapped out her process, identified the tasks she wanted to delegate, and after a number of interviews, we hired the right person. With the help of her new team member, her growing pains were minimal. Hiring and delegating was a wise investment - my client’s time is leveraged. Not only can she take on more work, but having assistance has also allowed her to elevate the excellent work she was already delivering to her clients.
In my own business, I have continued to tweak, adjust, and improve my services as my clients’ needs shift. Early on, I ran accountability groups. They were the foundation of my business, and I loved leading them. Over time, I found that my clients needed much more individual, hands-on support. As I started providing that deeper level of support, I decided to pause the groups so I could concentrate on my 1:1 clients. Then things shifted again. As the business landscape changed, business owners once again started asking for accountability in a group setting. And now I’m looking at relaunching my group program, not because I had some long-term plan, but because I’ve tried to stay focused on the needs and momentum of my clients.
I have different levels of how I work with my clients. You can check out my offerings here.
